Traveling Circus

It was the best of times, It was the worst of times…

I’d say good ol’ Dickens phrase aptly describes our week of camping in Texas. We’ve had us some great times this week… saw some beautiful handiworks of God’s creation and enjoyed time away from everyday life together as a family. I look forward to sharing many such anecdotes and pictures with you over the next few posts, but I gotta admit, we’ve had our “moments” as well. It was the sickness that got to us.

Sharing Center Stage

Since I’m currently camping in the desert with no electricity or WiFi, I called upon a few of my dear blogging friends to fill in during my absence here at the circus. They graciously agreed. So, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday of this week, I will feature a different guest blogger from my blog roll for your reading pleasure. I suggested they write a post that demonstrates how they would fit in here at the circus.

Sometimes Things Aren’t Exactly Like We Plan

Saturday we ventured out for White Sands, NM. We had high hopes for some sand sledding. I was expecting it to be like this. Only there is this phenomenon in Texas we recently discovered called Wind Season. Who knew? (Yes, knowledge of this would have been helpful in planning our vacation). So when we arrived at White Sands we discovered something called a sand storm. And unlike a snow storm, sand storms hurt.

Yea, So Apparently Licking Windows Is NOT a Good Idea

Hmmm…we’re on day 3 of our grand Texas adventure…and the circus crew has come down with quite a few ailments. My hoarse voice has developed into full laryngitis. My son has gotten a case of pink eye. My baby has developed a fever. And the middle child has nothing specific yet, but I did detect a little runny nose this evening. NICE, huh? Guess we just wanted to feel at home, so we brought the plague of the past few months along with us.

Ambitious or Crazy?

We made it. And more amazingly than that. So did our 5 suitcases, pack-n-play, and 3 car seats! We had a very gracious man checking us in who gave us time to sort our bags and let one slide which was slightly over the 50lb limit. Then we were blessed when we went to the car rental agency and got a stow and go van (which will make carting our 5 suitcases around much easier) and Scott was somehow able to talk them into a price several hundred dollars cheaper than the estimate we had gotten online.

Traveling Circus

Our bags are packed, checked, we’ve passed security, and now the circus crew is sitting in the terminal snacking on bagels, waiting to board the plane for El Paso (well, to Jackson to Huston to El Paso)!   You haven’t see the circus till you’ve see 2 adults, three preschoolers, our 8 checked bags and our 4 carry on items go through the check in line and security. Let’s throw in a little reshuffling of items in our bags to try and make all of our bags meet the weight limit.
