But, of course!

I am a home body. Truth be told, I can go a good four days of staying at home before I go stir crazy and need to get out and about. And as a home body, I love, LOVE days where we go no where and just stay home all day. These days don’t happen all too often, maybe about once a week. Because, my kids LOVE to go out. Even if it is grocery shopping.

Sunday Best

My little man loves to look spiffy for church on Sunday. He’s been asking for “shiny church shoes” for months now. But penny loafers are expensive and I hadn’t been able to find any at the consignment shop. Until this week when I went on a consignment store quest hoping to find some cool looking picture frames for a fun idea I had for my dining room. No luck with the picture frames but we did score a cooler and a pair of “shiny church shoes” in size 11.

Weekend Thoughts: Prayer

One of the sweetest parts of my day is listening to my kids pray. I love to hear the things they are thankful for at the end of the day. It gives me a glimpse into the things they value most. I can only imagine the smile their heartfelt prayers bring to our Lord as He listens to the cries of their heart. Tonight as my daughter was praying she thanked God for many things and then said very specifically, “but I am not, not thankful for thunderstorms.

A Lesson in Flexibility

I love our pediatric dentist office, for many reasons….the play gym in the waiting room, the sun glasses for the kids to wear while the lights shine in their eyes, the cool prizes the kids get to pick out, the pac man games they play between the cleaning and the dentist, but mostly for the people. Without the kind and patient hygienists and dentists, the games and toys really wouldn’t matter.

Will the Real Crystal please stand up?

If you’ve been following my tweets or facebook statuses over the past few weeks, then you know I have been crazy cleaning girl here lately. In addition to my late night bathroom scrubbing and Friday night painting parties, today I did something I’ve never done before. I got a friend to watch my kids so I could do house work. I’ve had a friend watch the kids so I could go to the OB, or to a school interview, even for some volunteering at the preschool, but for house work?

The President’s Car

The kids and I were walking around downtown Annapolis last week when we spotted this car. My son said, “Hey, I bet that’s Barack Obama’s car!”  You know, because naturally the president of the United States would drive a car that looked like an American flag. I am sure the people at Beltway Brokerage.com would be so happy to know that their car gets such high billing.

Tackling the Entry Way

Recently I decided the entry way to our home needed a face lift. For the past 6 years I’ve had a narrow card table covered with a table cloth and some seasonal decor on the top. Sounds classy huh? Well last month I decided my table had to go. This left me with a bare white wall.  Nothing says “home sweet home” like a big empty wall of blah.

Spellbound

I was enchanted by my youngest on Saturday as she played with her dolls. She played quietly and contently for at least an hour. I could have done so much with that time and yet I couldn’t take my eyes off of her. She barely noticed my presence as she sat and arranged her dolls, poured their imaginary tea, and made sure everyone got a sip. Then repeated the endearing process over and over.

Weekend Thoughts: Memoirs

I’ve mentioned before, that the situation in Sudan has been heavy on my heart lately. During my attempt to do something about it, I felt it was of utmost importance to learn more about it. Recently, I decided to read some memoirs written by people who are from the region and whose lives have been affected by the atrocities. A few weeks ago I read Halima Bashir’s memoir of Survival in Darfur entitled Tears of the Desert .

Going to the Chapel…

I went to a wedding the other night. The bride looked dashing in her floor length ball gown, with her shoulder length hair worn down. The groom was handsome in his navy blue jacket with a red and gray tie, and a simple black eyed susan taped to his jacket lapel. The bride carried matching black eyes susan’s picked fresh from her mother’s yard.  As the ceremony began the bride’s cell phone rang.
